Think Busby Berkely meets Conan the Barbarian. It is impossible, however, to forget the Samson and Delilah number. The introduction blazed by so quickly I barely remember it. Jubilee! is divided into four acts: an introduction, a retelling of Samson and Delilah, the sinking of the Titanic, and a finale. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Jubilee! (particularly the second act) were the inspiration for a lot of the numbers in the movie "Showgirls". But I kept wondering if Jubilee! was what would have happened if my high school music teacher (bless his soul) had been given an unlimited budget for the school play and all the kids had showed up in their underwear. Don't get me wrong - I love musical theatre and was even employed performing dinner theatre for a year. What did surprise me were the many times I laughed out loud at how utterly inane and ridiculous some of the pieces were. I had expected Jubilee! to be dorky and moth-eaten and I wasn't disappointed. ![]() ![]() We reached a compromise - I was allowed the Liberace Museum and Jubilee! as long as the rest of the weekend was spent as tastefully as possible. On my second visit to Vegas I knew I'd have to do some of the "classics" that my husband (who is much less appreciative of kitsch) wouldn't even consider the first time around.
